Although cognizant of a female gender identity since earliest childhood, Katie spent her adult life in a quest to prove it was easier to change her mind than her body. By her early forties, Katie felt certain she had achieved this goal and 'beaten' transsexualism.

Then, at age forty-five, Katie experienced something few transsexuals ever do: her body began to feminize with no hormones taken to drive the process.

By December 2005, emotionally broken and suicidal, Katie turned to her last viable option: She began gender and hormone therapy in 2006 — and transitioned later that year. In February 2008, Katie had her sex reassignment surgery with Dr. Pierre Brassard in Montreal.

Currently, Katie continues her career as a professional audio engineer and pursues her passion for writing. While at home, she revels in the love of her hanai ohana — and skinny dips with her girlfriends at Waikiki.
